Norfolk Wherry Trust

Heritage Open Day: An opportunity to visit the Norfolk Wherry Trust boatyard, home of Albion, a 125 year old 'black-sailed' trading wherry. Experienced volunteers will show you around Wherry Albion and Forsythe's Boatyard, sharing the history and personal stories of this 125-year-old trading vessel. Albion was once one of over 300 vessels ferrying goods and services from the port of Lowestoft as far upriver as Norwich. It remains only one of two trading wherries still sailing today and welcoming visitors for day trips and charters from May to September. Albion is a living museum – sailing the Norfolk Broads every summer, at the same time as representing the history of this unique area. The setting up of a trust in 1949 in order to preserve Albion was quite a feat at that time, but stands as testament to all those involved both then and now. Come and meet some of our volunteers and share their passion for this beautiful, and significant part of, the Norfolk Broads history.
