Royal Naval Hospital Great Yarmouth

Heritage Open Day: Discover a Grade II* listed building. Built in 1811, it is an ex-military hospital and barracks. The Royal Naval Hospital was built for the navy in 1811 at a cost of £120,000.
It was handed over to the army in 1815 to accommodate 600 injured soldiers from the Battle of Waterloo. Over the years, it has been in the care of both the Army and the Navy.
In World War II it was a naval base (HMS Watchful).
It was transferred to the NHS in 1958, closed in 1993, and converted to private dwellings in 1997.
