Heritage Open Day: A free exhibition of catalogues, bill-heads and ephemera illustrating some of the shops, factories and manufacturers now lost to the City from the 19th century through to the close of the 20th century. To those brought up in this city in the 1950s, the following companies will be very familiar: just about everybody knew somebody who worked for one or the other. Now lost through time, Barnards, Bonds, Boulton & Paul, Chamberlins, Curls, Mann Egerton, Norvic, Trevor Page and even Norwich Union are just a few of the names from the post-war years of this city no longer in use or even in many cases in existence.
This exhibition will display catalogues and ephemera produced by some of these 'lost firms' and also include bill-heads from the 19th century when businesses were family affairs and the 'multiple' had not been envisaged.
