Heritage Open Day: Discover a hidden gem of a building at the heart of civic life in Durham city since the 14th century. The Grade II listed Durham Town Hall houses many atmospheric spaces, fascinating histories, and long held traditions; many of which continue to this day. The Hall remains the official office of the Mayor of Durham and the Mayoral Bodyguard, a tradition that dates back to 1602. The Guildhall is the oldest part of the Town Hall, this is the historic home of the Trade Guilds and Durham City Freemen; groups who shaped Durham for more than 500 years.
