Heritage Open Day: An exhibition of exquisite ‘chapbooks’ made by Steve Pardue and fellow artists and urban sketchers during the development and making of the ‘Figures of Tyne’ public artwork shortly to be installed on the new HMRC building at Pilgrim’s Gate. Originally (C16th) sold by peddlers known as ‘chapmen’, chapbooks are compact publications which were traditionally used for folk tales, popular literature, religious tracts and political pamphlets.
Incorporating text, observations, and beautifully rendered illustrations, each chapbook in this delightful exhibition celebrates the architectural detail and distinctiveness of individual buildings in Grainger Town area of the city.
