Open Days at St.John's with local history exhibition
Heritage Open Day: Visit to St.John's Church designed by Enoch Bassett Keeling in an English High Victorian Rogue Gothic Revival style with a polychromatic use of materials and consecrated in 1869. A display of Killingworths Waggonway and Railway history. Access to a Grade II Listed church with a Grade 2 * Listed Organ by Robert Postill of York. The church displays the features of Gothic Revival architecture. There will be a display of proposals to add facilities to make it accessible for use by community organisations in addition to an exhibition of local waggonways and their local contribution to railway development by George and Robert Stephenson, as local residents. Refreshments will be available as well as access to local church records.
