Roker Pier Tunnel and Lighthouse Presentation
Heritage Open Day: A one hour slide show presentation and talk on the Iconic and Historic Roker Pier Tunnel and Lighthouse.
Taking place at Adventure Sunderland building on Marine Walk, first come first served, maximum 30 people. Presentation by volunteer guides to give an insight into the history and decision to build Roker Pier and Lighthouse by River Wear Commissioners, including details about the chief engineer Henry Hay Wake, who planned, designed and oversaw the construction and gave some detail as to the construction of the pier and lighthouse including a look at the lighthouse refurbishment. The aim is to raise awareness of the history of the tunnel and lighthouse and also give those unable to take the tour some insight.
Unfortunately, tours for 2024 are currently postponed due to storm damage to Roker Pier, which is awaiting repair. Further details regarding tours can be found on the Roker Pier website.
