Congleton Bath House & Physic Garden
Heritage Open Day: See inside a rare surviving Georgian Bath House, and find out about the medicinal plants in our Physic Garden. The listed buildings on our site comprise a late-Georgian Bath House and a neoclassical garden shelter of the same period. Built by the owners of a nearby house, the Bath House is a rare survivor of the 18th and 19th-century passion for health-giving cold-water bathing. It contains a private plunge pool in the basement and an upstairs warming room. The garden shelter reflects a contemporary fashion in garden design - a classical architectural feature set within an idyllic landscape view. Following restoration of the buildings we have created a garden in the grounds to inspire interest in the fascinating stories of plants and their place in our history.
