Hyde War Memorial Trust Open Day

Heritage Open Day: Learn about the 710 men of Hyde who fell in World War 1. Handle their personal artefacts in the Visitor Centre. Take a short guided walk to the Cenotaph right at the heart of Werneth Low Country Park and discover some hidden secrets on its slopes. Hyde War Memorial Trust was established in 1921 in the memory of the 710 men of Hyde who lost their lives in World War One. The people of Hyde collected over £14,000 and purchased 150 acres of land on Werneth Low; a hill overlooking the town. They erected a cenotaph and promised that the land would remain forever an open space. Every year since then, townsfolk have gathered at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday to remember all of those affected by conflict. Werneth Low is now a Country Park which is open to all 24/7.
