Clayton Hall Living History Museum

Heritage Open Day: Step back in time at the final home of textile merchant & philanthropist, Humphrey Chetham. The Hall is a Grade II* moated manor house with six Victorian rooms, dressing-up, hands-on activities & local history room. History talks through the day. Our hands-on living history museum was lovingly created by a small team of volunteers in 2009 within the walls of Clayton Hall. The remaining section of the building dates back to the 15th Century and is a rare example of a moated, timber framed manor house on a scheduled site, which was once owned by Humphrey Chetham.
