Heritage Open Day: Built in 1610, the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin is the 4th church to stand on the site since the 15th century. St Mary's church, the only Grade I listed building in Knowsley, boasts a very fine Jacobean roof, Saxon font, ancient oak chest and Parish registers dating from 1573. After visiting the church why not continue your walk through history and explore the old church yard (a Celtic burial ground) or stroll through the old market town of Prescot which has it's own long interesting history? It is the home to the Shakespeare North theatre and has a unique Maritime 'Time Ball' - one of only three in the UK, which can be observed working at certain times during the day.
