St George the Martyr Wolverton Open Day
Heritage Open Day: Come and enjoy this Victorian Grade 2 * listed church, built in 1844. A very warm welcome to all our visitors. Information on the history of the first Railway church via a self-guided tour will be available along with refreshments, cake stall, preserves, storytelling and kids activities including the chance to ring the bell! The churchyard is being managed to maximise biodiversity and is part of the Eco Church project.
The Church owes its existence to the London and Birmingham Railway Company, which opened the world’s first trunk railway in 1838, and its decision to site the important midway station and railway works in the parish of Wolverton.
Sun 8 Sep:1200 - 1500 (church will remain open until 1700); Free Entry.
