Zainabiya Islamic Centre Heritage Exhibition

Heritage Open Day: A celebration of the Centre‘s 40 years and as well as 50 years of success for Asian Ugandans in Milton Keynes. We passionately believe that a concerted effort to preserve our heritage is a critical link to our faith and cultural legacy. The past that connects the beginnings of our community to its present status today is similar with other communities in the UK, with determined efforts put forth by a community of emigres pushed out from the turbulent East African territories of the mid-sixties and the early seventies.

The Zainabiya Islamic Centre in Milton Keynes traces its “first settler” to have arrived in 1964 from Pakistan. However, it was not until 1972 that the first group of families - victims of political unrest in Uganda - began to arrive in MK.
