About this Event

Cable House 14

Heritage Open Day: Set in one of England's most famous views, this is a rare opportunity to see and learn about this 'haven of history'. It played its part in the development of worldwide communications and the defending England's shore in WWII Cable House 14 Hidden alongside the newly named route, ' The King Charles III England Coastal Path', is Cable House 14. This intriguing hut is the birthplace of a network of undersea cable stations that connect the world. Built in 1900 as a relay station to carry telegraph messages under the sea to France, the hut was converted to a gun emplacement in WWII to fend off a landing invasion at Cuckmere Haven. This unassuming hut has a lot of history to tell. The world now sees 98% of international communication transported on the seabed.
