The people and places of World War 1
Heritage Open Day: The World War 1 Remembrance Centre in Portsmouth is dedicated to the eternal memory of those who fought and died in the conflict. The Centre houses many artefacts from World War 1 as well as models, memorabilia and displays telling the human stories behind the historical headlines. If, for instance, you don't know how World War 1 links the Titanic to Alice in Wonderland, you'll find out here! As well as free entrance and a large free car park, volunteers provide free guided tours of the centre, which is housed in a 160-year-old brick-built military bastion in the north of Portsmouth. Throughout the year, the centre opens from 11am to 2pm on Sundays and Tuesdays-Thursdays.
