Britain's What's On Event Guide
The West Gate
Heritage Open Day: Explore The West Gate, one of the gateways into the old town. From 6 to 8 September, we will be opening the West Gate, so that visitors can see inside all three of Southampton’s surviving medieval gatehouses on the same day. Southampton has the most impressive medieval town walls in the country – standing over 10 metres tall in places.
The West Gate is used for temporary exhibitions organised by See Southampton and includes displays on the provisioning of the Mayflower and D-Day. Find out more about the recent repairs to the building that uncovered evidence of the last major repair works in 1937.
We will be open from 10:00 – 16:00 (last entry at 15:30) and a maximum capacity of 50.
Fri 6 Sep:10:00 - 16:00 (last entry 15:30); Sat 7 Sep:10:00 - 16:00 (last entry 15:30); Sun 8 Sep:10:00 - 16:00 (last entry 15:30); Free Entry.
