Hyde900 Tile-making, Children's Trail and Finds Exhibition

Heritage Open Day: Among lots of faces in the church, created in stone, wood, stained glass and paint, there's possibly a medieval stonemason selfie! Come and make a face at St Bartholomew's, with clay, colouring or collage. Materials provided. St Bartholomew’s Church was founded in 1110 by the monks of Hyde Abbey, and is home to some examples of the amazing creativity and skill of medieval stonecarvers, from plainer items to the highly ornate. They include the faces of King Alfred, his Queen Alswitha, and an unknown little face that might be that of its maker – a stonemason selfie! There are also lots of other faces in the church, skilfully made using various media by artists from medieval to modern times. We invite you to come and be inspired by the history and creative skill on show: self-guided tours are available 10am to 4pm, and in the afternoon from 2pm visitors can sculpt their own selfie, using a variety of materials provided.
Sat 14 Sep:9:00 - 17:00; Sun 15 Sep:12:00 - 17:00; Free Entry.
