Heritage Open Day: A guided tour of the Sandown Castle Community Garden, once a castle - does anything remain under the sea wall and gardens? This event is about one of Henry VIII’s Castles of the Downs, namely Sandown Castle - the northerly end of what was a 2.6-mile-long fortress. The fortress was designed to protect the natural deep safe harbour of Deal during the Tudor period.
It takes the audience on a 500-year journey from the origins of this historic building to the now beautiful gardens.
The tour will take about 45 minutes.
