Founded in 1823, The Oxford Union Society has been at the heart of Oxford life for over 200 years. Initially formed by a small group of students as a forum for free speech and debate among peers, the Union now regularly hosts famous speakers from all over the world. Recent highlights include Tom Hanks teaching acting, Nancy Pelosi debating the threat posed by populism, and Jonny Wilkinson talking about that World Cup drop goal.
Our doors are open for visitors to view our Debating Chamber and beautiful Old Library. The latter features Pre-Raphaelite art by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Morris and others. In addition, our Members’ Bar will be serving drinks and light refreshments.
