St Peter's Church, Chertsey

Heritage Open Day: Explore the history of Chertsey through our eight bells in the medieval tower and how the mark of Henry VIII can still be felt and judge for yourself if the myth of the Curfew Bell, linked to one of Chertsey's statues, could really be true. St Peter's Church, Chertsey will be embracing Heritage Week particularly through the story of the Church bells. The medieval tower, home to eight bells each with their own story, will be on view as well as the carillon and clock for visitors to explore on Saturday 7th September. There will be bell ringing from 12 noon – 12.45pm. In addition to this, there will be an illustrated talk given by Malcolm Loveday entitled ‘A History of St Peter’s Church, Chertsey’; this will be in the church on the Friday evening, (6th September) at 7.30pm, with light refreshments and a musical interlude. To round off the weekend, it is intended to attempt to ring a quarter peal on Sunday evening between 5 - 6.30pm.
Fri 6 Sep:1930; Sat 7 Sep:1000-1600; Free Entry.
