Heritage Open Day: Learn about the roads and tracks and the origin of their names. Newdigate for centuries has been a backwater traversed by a few roads and tracks. The village lies on Wealden clay so during the winter months the roads would have been an impassable quagmire and during the summer they would be hard and deeply rutted. We will be showing how the roads developed and how people got around. We will also be describing the origins of the current road names.
