Farnham Masonic Centre

Heritage Open Day: Visit Farnham Masonic Centre. The temple will be laid out as for a ceremony, and there will be regalia on display.

The original structure of 42 Castle Street was an outbuilding or barn belonging to Farnham Castle, seat of the Bishops of Winchester. It was built before the English Civil War (1642-1648) during which the castle became the headquarters of the Parliamentary Army of the West and No. 42 was used as extra barrack accommodation for the Roundhead troops. When the bishops returned to the castle it continued as a barn or coach house until it was acquired by a William or Thomas Baker of Castle Hill in 1753, who rebuilt it as a ‘Musick House’ in which he installed a large organ.
