Museum of Farnham

Heritage Open Day: Join us on Saturday 14th to explore the story of Farnham hops and their connection to the brewing industry. Willmer House, the home of the Museum of Farnham, is an outstanding and little altered example of a Georgian townhouse. It was built in 1718 for a wealthy hop merchant, John Thorne, and today it is one of Farnham’s only two nonecclesiastical Grade I Listed Buildings. It is a symmetrical early Georgian townhouse with Baroque design influences and many original interior features.
The front façade is a tour de force of rubbed and gauged red brickwork with fine putty joints, though this is currently obscured by scaffolding pending repair work.
Behind the house is a sheltered walled garden, secluded and quiet, with a portrait bust of William Cobbett. The modern Garden Gallery is a teaching and exhibition space which can be hired for private events.
Sat 14 Sep:1000-1600; Free Entry.
