Treadwheel Crane
Heritage Open Day: Town Wharf, Millbrook
Grade II* listed building and scheduled ancient monument. Late 17th/early 18th century. Believed to be the last working example of its type in the country. Access to its workings. The Wey Navigation was opened in 1653 and the Treadwheel Crane, which stands on the redeveloped Town Wharf, probably dates from the late 17th century. It was used to load and unload barges at the former wharf, close to its present position, and was worked by men walking inside the 18 foot diameter wheel.
