The Parish Church of St John the Baptist, Old Malden

Heritage Open Day: This ancient Parish church is a hidden gem in London’s suburbia. Mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086. History boards showing timeline from Early Iron Age. A Grade II listed Jacobean church (1611) built on Saxon ruins with a Victorian extension (1875) and a contemporary extension (2004) within a conservation area. Ancient fields and Hogsmill River nearby. Connections with Walter de Merton and Merton College Oxford, with his coat of arms in a heraldic window with 1611 glass. The artist Millais painted the background to ‘Ophelia’ on the nearby Hogsmill river. History boards with timeline from Early Iron Age.
