Michell's Engine House - exploration through sound
Heritage Open Day: Step back in time through your sense of sound and experience an artistic interpretation of an engine in action. Come and hear the audio work of Kath Buckler and her piece, written for bells, strings and pianos, which was composed using structural and engineering data from Michell's engine itself. The work aims to musically convey dimension, form and presence in an otherwise silent space.
Each instrument in the piece is heard through separate speakers on different levels, representing different parts of the engine. There is no right or wrong place to listen so we invite you to come and find your own favourite spot in Michell's Engine House.
Michell's will be open 10am - 3:30pm daily throughout the Heritage Open Days festival. This will be on a free-flow basis so booking is not required but there may be a little wait to enter the engine house.
