St Mary's Church, Hemyock
Heritage Open Day: St Mary's Church in Hemyock has a record that Thomas de Hydon was Rector from 1268 and in the 1300s a separate chantry chapel was dedicated to St Katherine by St Peter d'Uvedale and his wife Margaret who owned the adjacent Hemyock Castle. St Mary's Church has been the central place of worship for Hemyock residents being close to the Castle and the public house, The Catherine Wheel. It is open every day and will be open on Heritage Open Day, 8th September, with a public service from 1100 to 1230. During the day there will be a display of material recognising the long history of Christianity in the area.
