Bradstone Tour and Tea
Heritage Open Day: Enjoy an afternoon out at the delightful village of Bradstone. Find out more about the history of the village and enjoy refreshments at the Great Barn. This free guided tour, led by a local volunteer, starts at Bradstone Great Barn and leads you over to St Nonna's Church. Here's a little of the history to give you a flavour of the tour.
The medieval hamlet of Bradstone is full of history. It probably predated its Saxon (Old English) name which it takes from the ‘bradanstane’ .. broad stone… Bradstone.. which still lies in the hamlet and which is considered to be an ancient standing stone or menhir. Ordgar, a Saxon nobleman, first used the name in 971 when, lying sick here he frees 10 slaves.
