Heritage Open Day: A fine Gothic Church in the heart of Bournemouth. This 'Cathedral of Congregationalism', as it was once known, mainly dates from 1891, designed by local architectural practice Lawson & Donkin in the classic Gothic style and, able to seat over 1000, has probably the largest capacity of any church in the town. Following the First World War, the magnificent South Window was re-glazed in stained glass by the renowned firm Clayton & Bell in memory of the 24 members of the congregation who died in the War. The two main themes of the window are Bunyan's Pilgrims' Progress, and Sir Galahad and the quest for the Holy Grail: 'They were Great-Hearts and Helps these lads of ours'.
