West Bay Discovery Centre
Heritage Open Day: Visit the Chapel on the Beach! The Chapel on the Beach is a former Methodist Chapel, which is Grade II listed. It was constructed by a local shipbuilder and completed in 1849. After laying largely unused for several years, it was completely restored and adapted for use as a visitor centre in 2018. Its restoration included the sympathetic creation of a small mezzanine. This is normally office space and closed to the public but it will be accessible on the open day to enable high-level viewing of the interior and to enable views from the windows to be enjoyed. The Chapel is now West Bay Discovery Centre, a treasure trove of stories, information and activities covering local heritage and natural history. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Centre's exhibition A Resort to Rival Others, which features the early, ambitious, development of West Bay as a seaside resort.
