Heritage Open Day: A beautiful Italian Romanesque Church in the Dorset countryside. Built in 1874 by Charles Weld of adjoining Chideock Manor, this delightful Grade II* Italian Romanesque church is a gem of English Catholicism. The church is the Shrine of the Dorset Martyrs, a Marian Shrine, and has a small museum attached showing local history and village life through the ages. The Sacristy will be open to view the wall paintings, the Fra Newbery painting of the Chideock Martyrs and the site of the original barn chapel where mass was held secretly in penal times.
