Hardy Monument

Heritage Open Day: With stunning views over the Dorset countryside to the coast, Hardy's Monument is a must see! The Hardy Monument was built in 1844 in memory of Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, Flag Captain of HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. The National Trust became owners of the site in 1938 and have maintained it ever since. In a prominent position high on Black Down this impressive monument commands far reaching panoramic views across Dorset. Come and discover this Dorset landmark, climb the 120 steps to the viewing platform or take part in the family nature trail.
