Winterbourne Parish Church
Heritage Open Day: The late twelfth century Grade I listed Parish Church of St Michael, surrounded by its historic churchyard, sits in a rural Conservation Zone. It has significant remains from the 14th century to the present day, evidence of its continuing use. The parish church with its 14th century tower and spire, is the centre of a lively community. It contains much of interest. There are important 14th century wall paintings, several effigies and a brass, all commissioned by Sir Thomas Bradeston, a friend and supporter of Edward III. Winterbourne Medieval Barn next door to the church also has links to Sir Thomas Bradeston. Stained glass includes a First World War memorial and a 1973 window by the internationally renowned Alan Younger.
