Heritage Open Day: An Exhibition of the History of The Chapel of St. Mary Magdalen Chapel, Holloway, Bath - built in the 11th century, rebuilt in the 15th, extended in the 18th and bombed in the 20th - the illustrated history of the Chapel and its associated charities. The exhibition traces the history of the Chapel from its origins to the present day - serving the adjoining hospice (hospital), a refuge for lepers, in the 12th c. and then for the mentally ill from the 16th to early 20th c's., before becoming a place of worship serving the local community. In addition to the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to visit the delightful Magdalen Chapel Garden, the graveyard with its wonderful view over Bath, and the haunting sculpture display by Martin Elphick, The Casting Out.
Saturday 14th September is our Open Day, when there will also be a talk by the Chaplain, an organ recital, and madrigals.
