Hunky Punks and Hedgehogs - Discover Hemington St Mary's
Heritage Open Day: Find out more about the history of this wonderful Grade I listed medieval church. With C13th carved angel corbels, a Norman chancel arch, hunky punks and a tiny carved hedgehog there is much to discover and find. The Church of St Mary the Virgin in Hemington is an extremely significant example of a grade I listed medieval parish church with a fine Somerset style tower. Come and enjoy this beautiful space at our Heritage Open Days event where you can find out more about the church and see some interesting exhibits which will be on display for the afternoon.
At 3pm and 4.30pm there will be guided tours (45 mins/1hr) with a knowledgeable local volunteer who will share the history of the church and point out some of its unique features. See if you can spot the recently discovered pilgrims cross in the porch, the high-up hunky punks and tiny carved hedgehog in the nave.
There will be a pop up cafe offering tea and cake.
