Milton Road Cemetery Grave Mapping Project
Heritage Open Day: An opportunity to see how a small team of Town Council volunteers are mapping & recording all of the graves in the cemetery. A huge task currently being undertaken by some Town Council volunteers is to map the graves in the cemetery, which includes making a photographic record of the plot (and headstone if there is one) and transcribing any (legible) inscription that remains - some of these graves are over 100 years old.
There are approximately 19,000 graves in the cemetery and to date, the volunteers have successfully mapped about 11,000 of these. It will probably take another 2 - 3 years to complete this project.
