St Edward’s Church Open Weekend

Heritage Open Day: Have guided tours of the 700 year old Church and the Churchyard. See the Saxon crosses; famous embroideries; stained glass, William Morris & rose windows; Altar frontals; historic records & photographs. Refreshments available. St Edward’s Church is easily the oldest building in Leek. It was rebuilt in the early 14th century after the great fire of Leek burnt down the original mainly wooden church and much of what was then the town in 1297. The rebuilt church was consecrated in 1320. Evidence of Christian worship on the site goes back many centuries before that with remains of 7th and 8th century Saxon Preaching Crosses in the Church and Churchyard.

The Church is steeped in history and guided tours will be given pointing out its main features and artefacts.
Sat 14 Sep:10.00 to 16.00; Sun 15 Sep:12.00 to 16.00; Free Entry.
