The Golden Age of Canals

Heritage Open Day: The Golden Age of Canals was produced in 2011 for BBC4 by David Parker. The film will be screened, with David giving an introduction, as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the reopening of the Caldon canal to boats. This year is the 50th anniversary of the reopening of the Caldon canal to traffic. As part of the celebration the 'The Golden Age of Canals', a film made in 2011 by David Parker for BBC4, will be screened in the Etruria Industrial Museum Canal Warehouse on 13th September 2024. The warehouse is located at the junction of the Trent and Mersey and Caldon canals, which were fully open in 1777 and 1778 respectively. Adjacent, is the preserved check office where tolls were collected when the canal was operating commercially.
