Heritage Open Day: Built in 1964, the Grade 2 listed octagonal church features a concrete dome, an impressive East Window by Tristan Ruhlmann based on St. John’s Gospel, and twelve carpet windows inspired by ancient prayer mats and Islamic designs, with wavy edges. The church, now recognised as a Grade 2 building of significant architectural interest, was constructed in 1964. It features an octagonal shape and is crowned by a single span of concrete forming a dome.
All the windows in the church, including this one, were designed by Tristan Ruhlmann from Alsace, France. St Peter's Church is the only example of his work other than in Alsace. Ruhlmann's unique design incorporates pieces of stained glass set into concrete panels.
