The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Transfiguration
Heritage Open Day: A presentation in conjunction with the Westwood history group centred on the church which was originally built as the Westwood School, functioning as such from 1872 to 1963. The Westwood history group present a comprehensive history of the area in general, once part of the Lord Leigh estate, Stoneleigh.
The old school building was consecrated as a Greek orthodox church in 1977, approximately 2 years after its purchase from the council with its new use enthusiastically embraced by Lord Leigh.
The church presently has a considerably larger footprint than the original building but visitors can still easily relate it to its original incarnation.
