Bishop Asbury Cottage Open Day
Heritage Open Day: Visit this tiny home of Francis Asbury, possibly one of the most famous people you have never heard of! Bishop Asbury grew up in this labourer's cottage just outside West Bromwich in the mid 1700s. Now situated on the busy Newton Road in Great Barr a couple of miles from West Bromwich centre, this tiny 2 up 2 down labourer's cottage which once stood in farmland with forges nearby was the childhood home of Francis Asbury. Asbury answered John Wesley's call to go to the USA and preach the Methodist work to the Americans. Asbury's life and career in America has led him to be an important historical figure in the USA with a statues dedicated to him and roads and schools named after him - pop in and discover his fascinating story in his boyhood home.
