Beverley The Church of St John of Beverley

Heritage Open Day: St John of Beverley Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Beverley, built in 1897. This Grade II listed building opened in 1898 is located on the corner of York Road and the North Bar. A Catholic chapel was built in Beverley In 1791 and was replaced by a church in 1846. This was the first Catholic Church to be built in Beverley since the Reformation and from here priests went out across East Yorkshire to serve the local population. Built between 1897 and 1898, the church was designed by the architectural firm of Smith, Brodrick & Lowther of Hull and built at a total cost of £1560. Lady Sykes of Sledmere House, wife of Sir Tatton Sykes paid for the construction.
