Baptist Chapel in Applegarth Lane
Heritage Open Day: The chapel is now the oldest in Yorkshire and still in use for such a modest building and has the smallest, first ever private, burial ground away from the established church in Bridlington. In 1680, a man was rescued from the sea; he had lost his ship, crew and cargo on a voyage from London to Scotland. He didn't seem very concerned by his losses; he explained to Robert Prudom that it was God's will and God would provide for his future because he was a Baptist. Robert Prudom (the Chief Lord of Bridlington) was so impressed by what he was told and was also seeking a new religion to follow. Robert Prudom then travelled to London and became an ordained Baptist minister; he built a secret chapel on his own land on Applegarth lane.
