St Thomas' Church Heritage Day
Heritage Open Day: This year's event will be held in St Thomas' Church, focussing on our community in Brompton, past and present. We will feature our Hog back Stones which date back to the Anglo-Danish period (7th to 11th century), which are thought to be grave covers Brompton parish church has a 1000 year history and the village is mentioned in Domesday. Five Anglo Danish hogback stones, of an original eleven found here, are displayed in the church along with Anglo Saxon sculpture: a ninth century cross shaft, two complete wheel head crosses and three other fragments of wheel head crosses. There are several stained glass windows, including one by Kempe, commemorating the Pattison family - owners of one of two linen mills established in the village in the middle of the 19th century.
