Heritage Open Day: Explore our Victorian Kitchen Garden to see the fruits, vegetables and herbs that residents of the Workhouse would have grown and eaten. Unearth the history of these heritage plant varieties and enjoy the garden's natural beauty. Access to the gardens will be free for visitors on the the 6th, 10th and 13th of September. The gardens are open 10am-4pm. There will be a team of volunteers to welcome Heritage Open Day visitors and answer any of their questions. Visitors will be free to explore the gardens and the rare varieties of heritage plants we grow here. The gardens are kept the same as they would have been in Victorian times when it would have been used by the residents of the Workhouse. It promises to be an interesting visit to learn more about the role of gardening in the Workhouse system and Victorian Society's relationship with nature.
