Britain's What's On Event Guide
Guided Tour of the Turner Museum of Glass
Heritage Open Day: Learn of the origins of glass making, see a glass wedding dress, find wine glasses engraved with secret but sensitive political statements, view a mosaic highlighting glass history and laugh at a musical joke. The museum will be open to visitors for viewing at your leisure from 10am to 4.30pm. Specifically on Wednesday 11th the curator is offering guided tours starting at 10.30am, 12 noon, 1.30pm and 3pm. These talks will focus on selected museum items that tell both the stories of the people that donated them and the objects themselves.
You will learn the history of Prof Turner whose collection forms the heart of the museum. He began life as a sickly child in a working-class family in the ‘Black Country’ but became an internationally renowned expert in Glass in all its forms, in spite of his early links to the Steel Industry.
