About this Event
Parkwood Springs - from Deer Park to Country Park
Heritage Open Day: See the best views in Sheffield and hear how a medieval deer park provided materials for industry, a home for workers, a dump for waste and a platform for guns. But now the deer are back and Parkwood Springs is set to be our country park in the city. We will walk around parts of Parkwood Springs, originally a medieval deer park, now a 150 hectare (370 acre) green open space which the ongoing masterplan sets out to make into 'Our Country Park In The City', only a mile from the centre of Sheffield. We will see the best views in the city and hear about the changing uses of the site, which has seen woodland industries, farming, quarrying, mining, brick making, landfill and electricity generation.
