Handbell Ringing - Have a go on our historic handbells
Heritage Open Day: Handbells in Dewsbury. 'Have a go' drop in session.
Join in with our band to experience traditional handbell tune ringing.
Our handbells are over 100 years old.
All welcome, no musical experience necessary. The event will be a workshop where visitors can have a go.
The event will interleave with our usual practice session.
Visitors will discover how easy it is to follow the number notation to produce great sounding music.
Visitors can stay for just a few minutes, or the whole 2 hours.
Ringers will be issued with clean cotton gloves, to wear whilst handling the bells.
We will have on display our 25 restored handbells and over 80 handbells that are awaiting restoration.
The handbells come from the Dewsbury Handbell Band of the late 19th century.
This will be a Drop in session, very informal and flexible.
We cannot predict numbers, though will try to ensure that all visitors will enjoy their visit.
