Friends of Rectory Park History Walk Thornhill

Heritage Open Day: Guided walk around Rectory Park, Thornhill. The park features, amongst other things, a moated island where the ruins of Thornhill Hall dating back to 1450 still stand, despite its near destruction in 1648, during the English Civil War. Rectory Park is a long established public park within the historic village of Thornhill. It was gifted to the council in the 1950s by the Savile Family, who had owned the site for many centuries. The walking tour will include information around the history of the site, including Thornhill Hall's sad demise during the Civil War. Today the site is a public park, with diverse habitats, forming a green corridor from the canal and river to the village of Thornhill and Thornhill Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels, with its strong links to the Savile Family.
Sat 7 Sep:1400; Sat 14 Sep:1400; Free Entry.
