St Helen's Church Hemsworth
Heritage Open Day: A drop in session to view the historic parish church of Hemsworth. Evidence suggests that there was probably a stone church on the site from the late 9th century. The present Chancel and Lady Chapel being built in the 14th and 15th centuries, with significant changes being made in the mid 1800's, along with the rebuilding of the Tower. In 1952 the peal of bells was augmented to 8 as a memorial to those of the Parish that died in WWII. You will be able to view, in the Lady Chapel, the WWI memorial tablets to the fallen.
Volunteers will be on hand in the church and displays will highlight the church's links to the Heritage Open Day 2024 theme of Routes, Networks and Connections. Refreshments will be available.
